Barca gives up on Jose, continue their search for Dembele's replacement
Barcelona have given up the transfer of striker Willian Jose, who was seeking to replace the injured Ousmane Dembele due to Real Sociedad’s high demands.
The Barca board made the decision on Wednesday night because Sociedad did not give up the very high price for the striker sale.
Jose has a 70m euro release clause and Sociedad coach Imanol Alguacil was clear in his stance that he would leave only if that amount was paid.
The Basque club is focused on the King’s Cup semifinals, where it hosts the Miranda squad on Thursday, so it does not want to lose any key players in an effort to win the trophy and keep pace with other teams competing for the League One Champions in La Liga.
“I think he will stay with us unless they come up with a 70 million-euro bid,” Alguacil said.
As a result, Barcelona have given up on Jose and will now focus on other goals to replace Dembele.
Dembele has been operated and will be missing for six months. The Spanish champion has the right to legally transfer a French substitute even though he is out of season.
