Bayern: Cancellation of the Golden Ball, unfair decision for Lewandowski
Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes the decision to cancel the Golden Ball this year is an unfair one. As he believes Robert Lewandowski could have won this year’s award.
This year the Golden Ball will not be won by any player. As the organizers, France Football, estimated that because of the pandemic they did not have enough fair conditions to choose someone for this award.
“In extraordinary circumstances. For the first time in its history, which began in 1956. The Ballon d’Or France Football will not be awarded for 2020 due to a lack of equitable conditions.” the statement said.
Ever since the news of the cancellation of the Golden Ball became known, Robert Lewandowski fans have complained that their favorite footballer was robbed of the Golden Ball this year. As the he was considered the favorite for this award.
Rummenigge also believes that Lewandowski would have deserved the award this year. As his 51 goals this season have given Bayern the Bundesliga and German Cup trophies. And he could also help them with the Champions League trophy.
“I believe Robert Lewandowski is having a fantastic season and this season has probably been the best of his career.” said Rummenigge.
“Unfortunately, France Football canceled the Ballon d’Or. Which we are not happy about. After all, it’s not fair. Not just for Bayern. But also for Lewandowski, who could have won it.”
“I believe it is important that in a season when, except the league in France, the leagues continue to the end. The opportunity to give the Golden Ball to the best footballer in the world should be given.”
“Obviously, I believe that in these circumstances. Robert would have had a very good opportunity to win this award for the first time in his career.”
