Jurgen Klopp admits that he made a mistake with the departure of Xherdan Shaqiri
Xherdan Shaqiri, after several months in the shadows, has returned to be in the spotlight.
The Albanian striker, Shaqiri scored a beautiful goal in the Carabao Cup last night in Liverpool’s 7-2 victory against Lincoln City.
He was substituted in the 75th minute. Klopp decided to include Naby Keita in the game. But admitted that he made a mistake, he had to let him play the whole match.
“He [Shaqiri] made a super match.” said Klopp.
“A good performance in a position not quite unknown. But a little deeper in midfield – he did really, really well.”
“It was my fault [he was replaced] – I was afraid he twisted his ankle a bit, but he was completely fine, it was absolutely nothing – he just touched him twice, but I thought it was okay to remove him then” .
“But he played a really, really good game. He did the job miraculously, especially the free kick he scored, what a goal it was!”
“There is no doubt about Shaqi’s quality – there has never been.” he added.
“At the moment everything looks really good and looks really promising, so we’ll see.”
