Lampard: Maguire should have been punished with red
Chelsea coach Frank Lampard was angry with VAR technology on Monday after Manchester United quarterback Harry Maguire did not get a red card for a controversial blow to Michy Batshuay.
During Monday’s game at Stamford Bridge, while fighting for a ball that was coming off the field. Harry Maguire fell into the bar while Michy Batshuayi was running behind him. This is what angered Lampard.
The Red Devils defender extended his leg at that moment, slamming the Chelsea striker under his belly, right in front of where the coaching staff and Chelsea players were sitting.
After the incident was reviewed by the VAR, Maguire was not given a red card for the incident. The Manchester United defender later scored the second goal in the 2-0 win over the Red Devils.
However, this is not the only case of VAR interference in the match. With Chelsea canceling out two goals – one for off-position and the other due to an irregular interference in the action.
At the post-match conference, Chelsea coach Frank Lampard said the English quarterback should not even have been on the field to score the second goal of the match and he believes VAR injured his squad during the match.
“Harry Maguire should have been sentenced with red, this is obvious and of course it changes the game a lot. Then, Antonio Rudiger’s goal was regular.
“Giroud was out of the game for just one stroke. But I understand this decision because that’s the way things are now. I do not understand why judges here do not use the monitor around the field. The use of that monitor should start. “
