Messi: With Ronaldo at Real, El Classico was more special
Lionel Messi believes his duel with Cristiano Ronaldo in La Liga has been special will remain in people’s minds forever, despite his move to Serie A. With Messi at Barcelona and Ronaldo at Real Madrid from 2009 to 2018, the two stars dominated world football to win all team and individual trophies except one Golden Ball out of 12, won by Luke Modric in 2018.
Messi thinks the longevity and intensity of his rivalry with Ronaldo was a highlight and that fans will not forget their struggles even though Ronaldo is now pursuing a career at Juventus.
“It was a special duel and will remain forever because it lasted many years and it is not easy to maintain certain levels for a long time. Plus, the teams we played in were also very demanding, both Real Madrid and Barcelona, two of the best in the world.”-Messi initially told to DAZN.
“Having competed equally for so many years, I think it will remain in people’s minds forever.”
“The sporting duel between us was very beautiful on a personal level and I think people were also entertained, either by Madrid or Barcelona, or even just football fans in general.”
“Of course when Cristiano was at Real Madrid, El Classico’s matches were always special.”- the Argentine added.
“Matches against Real always mean a lot, but when Cristiano was there they were much more special.”
“But time has passed by. Now we have to look forward to the future.”-concluded the Barcelona’s captain.
