Real Madrid and Barcelona: 15 matches that will decide the winner of La Liga
Los Blancos and Barca have another “El Clasico” on their agenda March, a match that could play a big role in the final standings of La Liga table.
As seasons in Spain come and go, the race for the La Liga title seems to be between Real Madrid and Barcelona. Although there are 15 more games left until the end of the season, the two clubs have marked March 1 on their calendar. At 9pm on that date, the two Spanish giants will face each other at Santiago Bernabeu.
Los Blancos will welcome, not in the fullest sense, Barcelona at home, aware of the importance of this match and without overlooking the other two league matches.
Firstly it is Celta Vigo’s turn, before visiting Levante. While Quique Setien will focus on the match against Getafe, which ranks third in the league, and then the match against Eibar. Both matches will take place at Camp Nou, before traveling to the capital.
When El Clasico gets off the road, Barcelona have the toughest matches. The Catalans agenda includes trips to Sevilla (fifth) and Villarreal (eighth), also home games against Atletico Madrid in late April.
However, elimination from the King’s Cup in the quarter-finals could well do the trick for the La Liga title. Both teams will likely be more focused on the championship, with the Champions League now starting again.
Both clubs have also lost eight home games and seven away games. From the current La Liga top nine, Zinedine Zidane’s squad has the toughest trips at Anoeta against Real Sociedad and San Mames against Athletic Bilbao.
If Real Madrid or Barcelona reach the Champions League final in Istanbul on May 20, then they would play 23 more games in the 111 days remaining until the end of the season, an average one match every 4.8 days.
The race for the La Liga title this season is as fervent as neutral fans might have hoped. However, after March 1, the race will become clearer to everyone.
