Schmeichel: De Gea is being treated unfairly
Former Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel believes David de Gea is being treated unfairly by the critics. Who have questioned his future at Old Trafford.
The position of David de Gea as the first goalkeeper in the Manchester United team has been questioned again after some of his poor performances in the matches of the 2019/20 season.
Many fans and analysts have called for Manchester United to bring back Sheffield United goalkeeper Dean Henderson. Especially after De Gea’s mistakes in the FA Cup semi-final defeat against Chelsea.
Schmeichel is not part of the group that shares this view, as the United legend wants the Red Devils to show more loyalty to De Gea. As a player who was the best for a long time.
“He is a young English goalkeeper, on loan at Sheffield United. He has done a fantastic job and is a very promising talent. This is a wonderful story.” Schmeichel told BeIN Sports.
“But De Gea has been one of the best in the Premier League for many years. One of the things I believe is that Ole’s style of play is not in line with the way De Gea was used to playing. So he had to change a few things.”
“When you make changes, you always make mistakes. If you do not make mistakes, then you have no way of learning. They now have the third place. They have the Europa League. He will be back after a two-week break and he will be fine.”
“I see De Gea as a Manchester United goalkeeper for many more years. And I think he has been treated unfairly, to be honest.”
