Pressure ‘Cristiano Ronaldo’ - Havertz speaks openly about his first edition at Chelsea
Kai Havertz has spoken openly about feeling a “completely different pressure” during his first season at Chelsea.
The German midfielder, Havertz, who joined The Blues from Bayer Leverkusen in a € 80 million deal. The second most expensive deal in the club’s history – was expected to come in and make a big impact. After a great edition 2019/20 under the direction of Peter Bosz.
To his credit, it didn’t take long for the highly acclaimed Havertz to make a brilliant first impression. Scoring a hat-trick in the EFL Cup against Barnsley in September.
But despite a promising start, the talented German struggled for the most part throughout his first season in England. Even though he enjoyed impressive form in the final weeks of the season. Scoring in the Champions League final of the month passed against Manchester City.
He has since spoken openly about his Chelsea debut season in an interview with German media outlet Suddeutsche Zeitung. Where he claimed the expectations were too high when he first arrived at Stamford Bridge.
“People expect you to be the new Cristiano Ronaldo.” he said.
“But it will not be so fast, everything is new and I really did not play my best football in the beginning.”
