Official: Chelsea fire Lampard
Chelsea have also officially confirmed that they have fired coach Frank Lampard. As a result of poor results in recent weeks.
The news of Lampard’s dismissal comes just 24 hours after Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Luton Town in the FA Cup. But the Premier League squad’s form leaves much to be desired.
Chelsea have lost five of their last eight Premier League games. Dropping to ninth place in the table.
In a press release, Chelsea confirmed: “It was a difficult decision and by no means one that the club owner and the board found easy to make.”
“We are grateful to Frank for what he has achieved as our coach. However, the results and performances in recent weeks have not met the expectations of the club, leaving the team in the middle of the table without any clear path of sustainable development.
Lampard was appointed to the post of Chelsea coach in July 2019, following the dismissal of Maurizio Sarri.
He had signed a three and a half year contract, which was terminated prematurely already.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has said that Lampard remains an important icon of the club, despite the dismissal.
“It was a difficult decision for the club because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have a lot of respect for him.” said Abramovich.
